Recession: Are You Prepared?
Oil prices have been surging. Housing markets have been dropping. Interest rates keep getting cut by the Fed in order to help curb the negative effects of possible recession. What happens if all of the current economic activity sends the US into an economic recession? Would you be prepared? Included in this article are several helpful tips and advice on ways to potentially avoid some of the pitfalls that occur as a result of a recession. But, as we all know, a recession is something that no one can ever be completely prepared for as it effects nearly everything that has anything to do with finance. That is, except for the few local towns that seem unaffected by the US economy, which is unusually rare.Let’s say you are not an individual living in one of the local communities seemingly on a different route than the rest of the country such as the state of Idaho, which, in the government’s recent state-by-state GDP data, Idaho showed a 7.5% growth in GDP last year. How will you know when to be prepared? The answer is actually rather vague as no one can really predict precisely when and even if a recession will take place. In fact, many times we don’t even realize we are even in one until it has already set in. this uncertainty is exactly the reason why families and individuals should begin saving money today. Not a whole lot, but just enough money to get everyone through a good 6 months or so in case there should ever be any illness or job losses during these times, or any time in that matter. Currently, in California one of the unions will be going on strike soon and everyone in the industry will soon be unable to work. What alternatives do they have, right? The suggestions I have heard right now in reference to those in need to financial advice are told: “make sure you have at least 6 months of money supply saved up.” Ok. That would be great, but, they just realized they were going to strike a couple of days ago. Now what? Damage control. This could all be prevented if the unprepared ones put together some sort of recession plan leading with a nest-egg of savings just to help stay afloat. This is obviously one of the most important factors. But, what if you are so strapped that it is nearly impossible to save that much at this time? There are several other things a person can do in order to prepare for a downturn in the economy or industry. One very useful thing to do is to always keep your resume fresh. You really never know when you will need it. Also, try to always keep an eye on the job market even when you are indeed employed. Just this knowledge alone will help you find a job for yourself if the need ever should arise. In addition, this information will be extremely helpful to those just entering the industry or friends who need a hand in finding a job. This will only help you in the future if and when you should ever need a big favor from them. I have seen this situation occur many times in my industry and it is quite amazing what a little help towards others will do for your career. If you are investing currently, maybe consider taking some of the funds out of the stock market and into something like bonds. The reason is that bonds have always performed much better than stocks during a recessions in the past. This can be attributed to the lower amount of funds being borrowed during a recession leading to lower interest rates. And with lower interest rates come higher bond prices. As I mentioned earlier, predicting a recession has always been a hazy subject. No one really knows if and when one will actually hit. This is why we all need to prepare for such occurrences. These days it seems to be quite a challenge to keep everything stable for a long period of time and keeping the things in this article in mind when considering options will help prevent the need for damage control if the event should ever arise. If you decide to get into more investment tools such as bonds and annuities, make sure you know all of the facts involved before paying any money. Many cases show that you could be paying the company much more than you think when you have money in such tools as annuities. Always do your research and compare all the different plans. The salesmen know all about them, so why shouldn’t you if it is your money going into owning them? So, always know your facts when planning for the future and try to become even more prepared than you were the day before even if it just means knowing what jobs are out there and keeping in the ‘loop’. Planting seeds will always eventually result in a harvest. For more information on Preparing for Recession, please visit http://www.SquarePeak.com.

Regenerative Medicine: Can we Regrow Our Organs and Limbs?
Have you ever wondered how certain creatures such as newts and salamanders have the ability to regrow their limbs after becoming detached? Many scientists have been researching this phenomenon in hopes to apply this regeneration process to human beings. But have they found anything? The answer is yes. But, is regeneration such as this actually possible? Scientists have just discovered why the regeneration occurs in creatures such as newts and now look towards the future to see if there is any way we could use these new findings in order to regenerate our own limbs. What scientists have recently found in newts is a certain protein which causes them to regrow the detached limb. Newts are members of the Salamandridae family and can be found in North America, Europe, and Asia. They have the ability to regenerate limbs, eyes, spinal cords, hearts, intestines, and upper and lower jaws. All of this regeneration going on in these little creatures has remained a mystery for some time. But all of the recent research has paid off as the protein discovered, called nAG, has been found to come from nerve and skin cells. This protein is what creates a mass of undifferentiated cells capable of growth and regeneration called blastema. The blastema are the cells which actually regrow the severed body parts in these animals. Blastemata is normally found in an organism’s early development stages such as embryonic states. So it figures that creatures such as salamanders would still have these cells as opposed to a human or even a frog as salamanders are still considered as much more ‘primitive’ creatures as opposed to more developed species. So what does all this mean to us if these cells are only found in ‘primitive’ creatures? This question is what researchers are just now asking each other. Is it possible that human beings can actually utilize these cells in order to regrow a heart or a severed fingertip? All of this runs into the issue of regenerative medicine and stem cell research where there have been many heated arguments on the topics of such regeneration processes recently. Will such findings, if put to use in human beings, place a burden on many peoples morals and beliefs? Or will these new findings help boost our human existence in a positive manner? These questions will inevitably arise as scientists work around the clock to gain even more in-depth insight on the understanding of the molecular communication processes and more in order to find out what exactly is happening that is causing the regeneration so that they may possibly reproduce these systems.Of course, no one really knows how far or how long this research will go to gain a clear understanding of this segment in regenerative medicine. But, if creatures such as newts are able to turn their own cells into undifferentiated stem cells and then back into mature tissue again, then what do you think humans will be like if we were able to grasp and apply this amazing ability? We are a long, long way from realizing any of this blastema activity in any human context, but the findings are there. So, is this is just another small step into the future of human regenerative medicine and advancement of the human species? Or is it merely a dead-ended finding that can only be utilized in creatures such as the newt and salamander? Only time will tell and scientists will always be searching for answers. Sugar Highs: Do They Really Exist?
On Halloween night and many other sugar-coated occasions, many of us will be experiencing lots of candy going into little bags already full of little sugary treats. However, once the night is over and the candy trading negotiations are almost over, the little business people soon become a little wild. Many believe this spike in energy involves a beloved rush, or a ‘sugar high’ per se. But on the contrary, as many scientists now believe, there really is not a sugar ‘high’ at all. If a person were to do a little research on their own, they will find that a sugar ‘high’ may just be caused by the highs and lows caused by the body’s regulatory activities as it desperately tries to achieve a balance of glucose in the blood. The human brain is fueled by the blood sugar, glucose. In fact, it takes around 20% of all the carbohydrates we put into our body to run it. However, the brain is a little picky about how it likes to take in all the sugars. It prefers to take in a steady stream rather than spikes and constant rushes. The major rushes of sugar into the blood is caused by intake of simple carbohydrates often found in candy, soda, corn syrup and processed flour products. These foods will cause wild ‘ups and downs’ as the sugar is instantly transported into the bloodstream. This rapid rise causes a rush of another kind. As the balance of sugars in the blood goes off-kilter, the pancreas begins to rush out insulin which pushes sugars out of the bloodstream and into tissues causing an ‘sugar low’ enough to cause a kid to start singing John Lee Hooker songs, or even ‘The Candyland Blues’. This experience is caused by the lunging sugar levels also known as hypoglycemia. Once hypoglycemia kicks in, this is when the next rise in energy occurs from the release of adrenal hormones that begins to take stored sugars in the liver out into the blood to restore the, now too low, blood sugars back to a normal level. This could be interpreted by some as a ‘sugar high’. With all of this up and down activity taking place, something else is affected. The highs and lows of blood sugar and adrenal hormones can cause an imbalance in the body’s neurotransmitters. This imbalance will cause individuals to feel irritable, fidgety, inattentive, and sleepy and so on. So overall, it is obviously not the sugar itself that causes the ups and downs associated with sugar intake; it is our own adrenal hormones and blood sugars being regulated. There was once a myth a long, long time ago when individuals thought sugar was within the same company of other drugs which we commonly refer to as narcotics. So before your little costumed pirate on Halloween suddenly becomes a handful after relishing the ‘booty’ from their latest found treasure, it may be a good idea to help ration some of the ‘goods’ or maybe even get a little for yourself. Understandably, most of these little ones tend to horde all the good stuff for themselves while sticking you with the little random generic peanut bar thingy. That’s ok. It should be a parent’s responsibility to watch the young ones enjoy their big night and take a few pictures too. But, if things tend to get a little wild soon thereafter, it is not because of a ‘high’, but their little blood sugar levels going up and down. Don’t say we didn’t warn you! After Having an Affair: Assessing the Damage and Focusing on Healing
Nearly 20% of all marriages seem to involve affairs and infidelity as I have read recently. While this is quite a large number, many of the marriages are able to ‘bounce’ back. How is this possible? While there are no quick-fixes, there are many ways. But in order to really make things work, it will always inevitably require a bit of discipline. For the victim, it is never an easy thing to get over no matter who you are or what type of relationship you are in be it a marriage or dating. Infidelity is always a heartbreaking occurrence. Dealing with it afterwards is always the hardest part once the person has learned the truth and now wants to know all about it.One of the major things when attempting to recover from a cheating spouse is to keep away from the disturbing thoughts of how things were ion the affair and any details of the sexual activity that may or may not have taken place. Bringing these sorts of images in your mind only makes things worse in the long run if you still feel there can be a relationship and healing in the future. Also, controlling your anger towards the adulterer will also allow more space for them to heal as well. Many adulterers do feel remorse for what they have done. And though it may feel just and right to drill them with anger rooting from your betrayal as the victim, it may be a better idea to keep those intentions to yourself for a time when both of you agree to allow one another to vent or even during time with a professional counselor. This is one option that should not be overlooked. It is a professional counselor’s job to see to it that even though the forests have been burned and there is much blame and spite to go around about who and what caused it, they will see to it that the emotions inside are accounted for and resolution will gradually find its path. While resolution may find its way, there are many reasons why those involved in relationships such as these actually do the things they do. Most times it seems that those getting involved in an affair are not seeking sexual gratification, it merely has to do with the relationship itself. When neither the adulterer nor the victim will really blame themselves when an affair is involved, both sides must look at the relationship and really assess what is not being agreed upon and what the trouble is in order to mend the things which cause one side to begin looking elsewhere for their needs. Other reasons could simply be because of low self esteem or even a search for self sort of phase where the individual wants to find out more about themselves as they feel there may be more out there than just what they’ve got right now in their life. In many cases, it has been something that has been learned from another family member. Possibly, a child witnesses their own parents having affairs or has just learned to accept that affairs are realities as the examples are everywhere.Whatever the reason is, if an affair has taken place and both sides now know the truth, then it is time to begin the healing process. It is not a pleasant process at all, but a growing process. Both sides must commit to resolving the issues which caused such infidelity to occur and let the healing begin. I am not saying that every person will forgive their spouse for having an affair, but I am just letting those who do not want to end their long history with their spouse and feel they can forgive and that there really is hope for the both of you. If this is how a person feels then try not to be angry and spiteful and look more towards finding the solution through first contacting a counselor in your area. This will begin the process of bringing to the surface those things which really make the difference between you and your loved one and begin the path of healing.
